KCPL and Your Mobile Device

iconic mobile devices

KCPL services are available to mobile users in two fundamental ways

Our goal is to make the information in our library systems available in standard formats that are device-independent while maintaining the security of your personal information.

Phone Applications

KCPL does not have a custom mobile application that gives users access to all library services but there is a growing suite of service-specific applications available to our patrons with mobile devices.

BookMyne

BookMyne logo

Now KCPL users can use BookMyne™ on their iPhones to search our collections and manage their library accounts. With BookMyne you will find many of the features that are already familiar to our e-Library users:

  • Get information about music, movies, and books in our collections, including current availability, author biographies, professional reviews, book summaries, and chapter excerpts.
  • Scan product UPC codes with your iPhone's camera to see if whatever catches your eye is available at the library.
  • Place holds on library materials and have them delivered to any of our branch locations.
  • See what you have on hold, checked out or overdue. If you have fines, BookMyne will tell you how much they are and why you owe them.

The application is currently available for free through the iTunes App store. Please send us an email at travis.lloyd@kanawhalibrary.org to let us know about your experience with this or any of the other applications listed here.

RedLaser

RedLaser logo

RedLaser is a comparison shopping application for the iPhone ® that provides information about the availability of a book or other library item. To use it, you take a picture of the item's UPC/bar code with your phone's camera.

When you "scan" a book in this way, the app will search known retail inventories for the title and return all known locations and prices. We have configured KCPL's collection so RedLaser can search it too. Find a book in the store, scan the UPC, and the app will let you know if we have the book. Remember, our price is always free.

e-Library and KanawhaLibrary.org

Both the library's website and the e-Library interface to the catalog and "My Account" features are designed so a mobile user can disable the Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) associated with the page so it can be viewed in a linear way that mobile users may find easier to navigate.

See your web browser's help files to learn how disable CSS.
