The Silver Bridge Disaster of 1967

Most West Virginians know the story the collapse of Point Pleasant's Silver Bridge on Dec. 15, 1967. Ruth and Martha Fout from the Point Pleasant River Museum, and Stephan Bullard and Bridget Gromek of West Hartford College in Hartford, Conn., have woven together 200 period photographs and firsthand eyewitness accounts to create a compelling narrative of this horrific event in their book The Silver Bridge Disaster of 1967. Don Goosman and Ruth Fout will be here to talk about the book. Copies of the book may be purchased at the event.

A History of the West Virginia Capitol

The West Virginia Capitol is perhaps the most recognizable building in the state, but few West Virginians realize all the twists and turns that led to the Capitol we have today. Jim Wallace, author of "A History of the West Virginia Capitol: The House of State," relates how the state might have ended up with a Capitol in a different location or even a different city, as well as how the Capitol could have been much different than the building that exists today.
