Green and Sustainable Features
The new Main Library will incorporate current concepts for sustainable design and energy conservation:
- Energy efficient, well insulated building with Low-E glazing
- Light reflecting roof surface
- Natural day lighting
- Non-toxic and low VOC materials
- Long-life environmentally-friendly building products
- Water saving plumbing fixtures
- Non-potable water usage for toilets and site irrigation
- High-efficiency boilers and chillers
- Computerized building energy management
- Heat reclamation for all outside-air ventilation
- Vegetated Green Roof with low energy lamps and ballasts
- Photo sensors to dim lights when daylight is sufficient and occupancy sensors to control/reduce lighting, heating, and cooling when rooms are unoccupied
- Pervious concrete pavement
These features and many more are anticipated to qualify the new Main Library for LEED silver certification, a rating system of the U.S. Green Building Council.
