Healing for Victims of Serious Adverse Childhood Experiences

September 24, 6:30 PM

Dunbar Branch Library

Type: Lectures, Meet the Author
Age: Adult
Topic: Authors, Health

Dr. Boyd Purcell, National Board Certified Counselor and Board Certified Chaplain, author of "Spiritual Terrorism: Spiritual Abuse from the Womb to the Tomb" and "Christianity without Insanity: For Optimal Mental/Emotional/Physical Health," will talk about adverse childhood experiences, which may have a lifelong, profoundly negative impact on people’s lives. Scientific research has shown that the various forms of ACEs - such as emotional, physical, and sexual abuse - can cause serious health problems, even rewiring the brains of victims and shortening their lifespans. ACEs may be even more harmful in combination. To date, research has not included mental and spiritual abuse, but Dr. Purcell believes these forms need to be included. At Marshall University Graduate College, Dr. Purcell taught Psychopathology, which postulates that mind and body are integrally and inseparably related. Dr. Purcell’s books will be available for purchase after the program.
