Pay My Fees?
You may pay fees at any library in the system. The library charges fees for several situations, including overdue materials, audiovisual materials returned to an outside book drop, lost or damaged materials, interlibrary loans, faxes and copies. Your borrowing privileges are suspended if you keep an item past its due date or have charges on your account exceeding $3.
Replacement Card: Your first library card/key tag is free. There is a $1 charge for a replacement.
Overdues: A 10-cents per day fine is added to your account for each item returned past the due date. Any days the library is closed and the first seven-days past the due date are not included. This charge will not be added to your account if you are a Kanawha County resident over the age of 60.
An overdue notice is sent when an item is 10 days past due. A bill for the total cost of the item, plus a processing fee, is sent when an item is 20 days past due. Debts that have not been resolved after 45 days are sent to a materials recovery service. An additional non-refundable fee of $15 is added to your account at this point.
Audiovisual items: A $1 charge is added to your account for each audiovisual item returned in an outside stand-alone book drop.
Lost or damaged items: The total cost plus a processing fee is assessed for each item lost. Charges for damaged items depend on the extent of the damage.
Copies, printouts and faxes: Copies are 15-cents per sheet. Computer print outs are 20-cents per sheet. Library-to-library faxes are 25-cents per page. Faxes to home, school or offices incur a $2 service fee, plus 25-cents per page. In addition, faxes to a long distance telephone number will incur a $1 long distance charge.
Interlibrary loans: Loans of materials from other libraries may result in postage fees in some situations.
