Tips & Activities for Developing Toddler Print Awareness

  • Read books and occasionally underline the words with your finger as you are reading. This will help your toddler understand that we read the words on the page, not the pictures.

  • Point out signs while driving, shopping or walking around town.

  • Let your toddler hold the book and turn the pages when you read together.

  • Provide your toddler with paper, crayons and other materials and encourage scribbling and other attempts to "write."
