Read books together and talk about the meaning of new words that you see in the book.
Ask your toddler questions about things he or she is doing or playing. Engaging toddlers in dialogue helps them use their vocabulary.
Explain "abstract" realities; things that toddlers cannot see or touch, but things like emotions.
