Tips & Activities for Developing Toddler Vocabulary

  • Talk to your toddler about the activities that you do during the day. Explain why you do certain things the way that you do.

  • Read books together and talk about the meaning of new words that you see in the book.

  • Ask your toddler questions about things he or she is doing or playing. Engaging toddlers in dialogue helps them use their vocabulary.

  • Explain "abstract" realities; things that toddlers cannot see or touch, but things like emotions.
