Creative Kids Coloring Contest Celebrate the Thanksgiving season by participating in the Elk Valley Express Library’s coloring contest. The contest will run through the entire month of November. Winners will be chosen in each age group for the following categories: Overall Winner and Most Original. All completed entries need to be turned in by closing (8:00 PM) on Wednesday, Nov. 30. When you complete an up, down, or diagonal BINGO, bring in your sheet to win a small prize. If you want to go all the way and try for a blackout, you will be entered in a drawing for a special prize. This is an ongoing program to be completed during the month of February 2015.

Take any fairy tale, from any culture or time period, and rewrite it in a twisted way. It can be funny, told from the perspective of the villain, or maybe a mash-up of a few of your favorite fairy tale characters in a new adventure. Authors must be ages 11-18. All writing must be your own work. Minimum 1,000 words. Maximum 2,500. All stories will be posted on the Teen Zone page. This national program is designed to engage citizens in learning about the world, and it emphasizes discussion and active participation from those attending. Each participant gets briefing books that feature impartial, thought-provoking analyses on eight issues of concern to U.S. policymakers today and will then be asked to report, either individually or as part of a group, on a specific topic. Discussion leader is Marjorie Clarkson. This month's topic is U.S. Policy Toward Africa.

Feed Your Head Lunchtime Program: Real Food Revisited This program will give you an overview of what makes a food real, what makes it processed, genetically engineered, or an anti-nutrient. Sally J. Miller, Nutrition Educator and owner of Eats of Eden, Nutrition Consulting, will cover such topics as how to identify additives or preservatives; how to read a food label; what processed foods do to your blood sugar, digestion and immune system, and more. Sally is also part owner of Mission Savvy organic juice bar and café in Charleston. Registration required and starts July 8.
