Make it and Take It: Holiday Cookie Decorating Craft your own fall cookies with the help of local baker Janna Paterno. All supplies will be provided. Each attendee will get two cookies to decorate as well as a list of online resources and tutorials for beginners. Participants will be making a pumpkin and a ghost cookie. You can view Janna’s creations on Instagram at SweetJannaLea. Class size is limited and registration is required. Due to limited space and supplies, this program is open to adults only. Registration begins October 15.

English Paper Piecing English paper piecing is a quilting technique used to hand sew intricate patchwork with the aid of paper templates. It is an old technique with a recent resurgence. Participants will learn the basics for this very portable quilting project. All materials will be provided, though participants are asked to bring a pair of scissors. Class size is limited. Registration required. Registration begins October 15.

Monstrously Fun Make 'n' Takes Get ready for the spooky season with a make ‘n’ take craft kit that you can take home with you to complete, or you can work on it while you’re at the library. Make sure to drop by the Elk Valley Branch Library every Monday in October to see what we’re making that week (while supplies last). It may be a creepy craft or it may be a fun fall craft, but it will most definitely require your creativity!

Littles' Fun Time: Costume Party Bring your children (under the age of 5) to the Elk Valley Branch Library for a time of fun! Let’s get in the Halloween spirit with a costume party for the younger kids. We will celebrate with crafts, activities, snacks, and a costume parade! Wear your silliest, funniest, wackiest, or scariest costume, but costumes are not required to participate in the fun! Recommended for children under the age of 5 and their caregivers.

Around the World Literary Journey Reading and Discussion Group This book discussion group features nine works from a global array of established authors whose geographical settings range from Australia to the Greek Islands. Several of these works were adapted to the cinema which further enlivens the discussions. This month’s selection is "Felicia's Journey" by William Trevor. The group meets the first Thursday of each month September 2018 through May 2019. Discussion leader is Tim Basford. Please note that the group will begin meeting at the Dunbar Branch Library in January.
