Modern Calligraphy Workshop Join us for a beginner's workshop in modern calligraphy, a free-flowing, less structured form of the old art of lettering. Just in time for the holidays, you will learn letter formation and spacing for envelopes, tags, and more. Learn how to create flourishes with your own style to add a unique touch to your writing. Pen, paper and instruction booklet will be provided. Registration is required.

Creative Kids Coloring Contest Celebrate the Thanksgiving season by participating in the Elk Valley Express Library’s coloring contest. The contest will run through the entire month of November. Winners will be chosen in each age group for the following categories: Overall Winner and Most Original. All completed entries need to be turned in by closing (8:00 PM) on Wednesday, Nov. 30. A complete set of guidelines is available at the library. If you have any questions, contact the Elk Valley Express Library at 304-965-8956.

The Reel Connection Reading and Discussion Group Discover these books that Hollywood has adapted to the big screen. The group meets the first Thursday of each month September through May. Holiday Tree Throughout the month of December you will have an opportunity to give back to your community. This year, the Main Library Children's Services Department will be accepting donations for the Kanawha Charleston Humane Association. Bring in donations any time during the month and add them to our Holiday Tree. Ask a staff member for a list of suggested donation items. Thank you for your caring!

Holiday Open House Let local band Qiet entertain you as you wait for the Christmas Parade to pass by on Capitol Street. Qiet, a band that mixes rock, jazz, punk and gypsy music will perform some seasonal favorites in their unique style on the library plaza beginning at 9:40 a.m. While you're here, get to know more about your library and its services. Refreshments will be served after the parade, courtesy of The Friends of The Library Foundation of Kanawha County.
