Meet the Author: Dr. Joseph Wyatt March, 2018 marks 15 years since President George W. Bush appeared on television to announce the launch of the Iraq War. Dr. Joseph Wyatt will present an overview of the war based on his new book, "Quagmire in Babylon; A History of the Iraq War, 1998-2018." Wyatt will discuss the lead up to the invasion, the push to Baghdad and its aftermath and how the government’s rationales for the war ultimately dissolved as Iraq then fell into civil war. The conflict’s fallout at home and abroad, including its ramifications for members of the military, also will be discussed. Joseph Wyatt is professor emeritus at Marshall University and is a contributing columnist for the Charleston Gazette-Mail. He has authored several other books including "The Breaking Point Killing and Other True Cases of Murder and Malice: A West Virginia Forensic Psychologist Remembers" as well as his most recent book, "Columns: Progressive Opinion in a Red State." Wyatt’s son Daniel, who wrote the book’s foreword and is a Marine Corps veteran who completed two tours of duty in Iraq, will be present to offer his insights on the war. He was among the first group of Marines to cross the border into Iraq on March 20, 2003 and was in Baghdad when the large statue of Saddam Hussein was pulled to the ground. He served a second tour of duty in Iraq on the Syrian border. Daniel is a graduate of Hurricane High School and is a 12-year veteran of the St. Albans police department. Wyatt’s book will be available for purchase following the presentation.
