Brooklyn by Colm Toibin: A Discussion Join us for a discussion of "Brooklyn" by Colm Toibin. Many themes are explored in this book about a young woman who leaves her home in Ireland in the 1950s to make a new life for herself in Brooklyn. Toibin is considered one of Ireland's foremost novelists in the twenty-first century. He was awarded the Costa Award for "Brooklyn" in 2009. This award is given both for high literary merit and for works that are enjoyable reading, whose aim is to convey the enjoyment of reading to the widest possible audience. A film adaptation of the novel was released in 2015. Copies of the book are limited and can be picked up at the Reference Desk.
