Mountain Magic: An Evening with Marc Harshman, Poet Laureate of West Virginia Enjoy informal readings and discussion with award winning poet, Marc Harshman, as he talks about his first seven years as West Virginia’s seventh Poet Laureate. Harshman will read selections from his two most recent poetry collections, the Weatherford Award winning Believe What You Can and the Blue Lynx Prize winning Woman in Red Anorak. Harshman will also share his unique overview of contemporary West Virginia arts and letters. Mountain Magic is a celebration of the rich literary and storytelling heritage of West Virginia. Come sit with us for a spell as we share the songs and folklore of Appalachia, from true stories of life in the mountains to chilling tales of haunted hollows. Adults and Teens. “Mountain Magic is sponsored by The West Virginia Humanities Council, Step by Step, Kanawha County Public Library and The Friends of The Library Foundation.”

How To Become a 501c3 in West Virginia Are you thinking about starting your own nonprofit in West Virginia, but are unsure how to go about doing so? Then this workshop will be perfect for you! Representatives from the West Virginia Secretary of State’s Office will teach attendees the necessary steps to applying for 501c3 (nonprofit) status in West Virginia. This program is part of our 2019 Nonprofit and Grant Workshop Series, which runs March - July. Registration for this event opens on February 13, 2019.

Women's History Month: Mother Jones The Clendenin Branch Library invites you to an experience in the historical portrayal of Mother Jones. Mother Jones was a union organizer and labor activist in the early part of the twentieth century. She devoted her life to bringing decent working and living conditions to people of all walks of life. Karen Vuranch recreates Jones' fire and energy with a lively presentation that includes audience participation. Registration begins February 18.
