Mountain Magic: Danny Boyd, Building Blocks of Storytelling for Screen and Graphic Novels This workshop will focus on the basic building blocks used to develop and construct stories for cinema and graphic novels. Boyd will identify and explore the primary story element, including character, backstory, commitment, opposition, situations and settings. Similar to the key to successful filmmaking, writing good scripts, "Is all in the pre-pro," says Boyd. Formatting styles and available writing software will also be discussed, but like most entertainment writing, it’s all about the story. Boyd is an acclaimed filmmaker (Chillers, Strangest Dreams, Paradise Park), a two-time television regional Emmy nominee, and a multi-nominated graphic novelist. Mountain Magic is a celebration of the rich literary and storytelling heritage of West Virginia. Come sit with us for a spell as we share the songs and folklore of Appalachia, from true stories of life in the mountains to chilling tales of haunted hollows. Adults and Teens. “Mountain Magic is sponsored by The West Virginia Humanities Council, Step by Step, Kanawha County Public Library and The Friends of The Library Foundation.”
