Join us the third Monday of each month through December for the Foreign Policy Association’s Great Decisions Discussion. This national program is designed to engage citizens in learning about the world, and it emphasizes discussion and active participation from those attending. Each participant gets briefing books that feature impartial, thought-provoking analyses on eight issues of concern to U.S. policymakers today and will then be asked to report, either individually or as part of a group, on a specific topic. This month's topic is China's Maritime Build-Up.

The groups meet once a month except in December. If you are eligible for Medicare, are interested in making new friends and enjoy discussing new books, contact your local library for more information. Copies of the books are limited. Coffee, tea and desserts provided by the Elk Valley Advisory Board. This month's title is "A Tilted World" by Tom Franklin.

Alzheimer's Disease: Effective Communication Strategies As people with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias progress in their journey and the ability to use words is lost, families need new ways to connect. Join us to explore how communication takes place when someone has Alzheimer’s, learn to decode the verbal and behavioral messages delivered by someone with dementia, and identify strategies to help you connect and communicate at each stage of the disease. The presenter is Jan McCoy. This is one of a series of free community workshops presented by the West Virginia Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association being offered throughout the Kanawha County Public Library in May and June.
