Alzheimer's Disease: Understanding and Responding to Dementia Related Behavior Behavior is a powerful form of communication and is one of the primary ways for people with dementia to communicate their needs and feelings as the ability to use language is lost. However, some behaviors can present real challenges for caregivers to manage. Join us to learn to decode behavioral messages, identify common behavior triggers, and learn strategies to help intervene with some of the most common behavioral challenges of Alzheimer’s disease. The presenter is J.T. Hunter. This is one of a series of free community workshops presented by the West Virginia Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association being offered throughout the Kanawha County Public Library in May and June.

Foundation Directory Online Professional Guided Searching Having a struggle finding good funding sources for your nonprofit organization? Drop by the Main Library Training Room and search for funding opportunities with Foundation Center Online Professional, a database with information on more than 140,000 grantmakers and 6 million grants. Nancy Allen, KCPL's Foundation Center Funding Information Network Supervisor, will be on hand to assist you in your search if you need some additional help. This program is part of our 2017 nonprofit and grant writing program series which runs February-June. Registration is required for this program and opens May 11, 2017.

Alzheimer's Disease: Healthy Living for Your Brain and Body For centuries, we’ve known that the health of the brain and the body are connected. But now, science is able to provide insights into how to optimize our physical and cognitive health as we age. This workshop provides research in the areas of diet and nutrition, exercise, cognitive activity and social engagement, and uses hands-on tools to help you incorporate these recommendations into a plan for healthy aging. The presenter is Carolyn Canini.
