The Foreign Policy Association's Great Decisions Discussion 2017 Join us the third Monday of each month through December for the Foreign Policy Association’s Great Decisions Discussion. This national program is designed to engage citizens in learning about the world, and it emphasizes discussion and active participation from those attending. Each participant gets briefing books that feature impartial, thought-provoking analyses on eight issues of concern to U.S. policymakers today and will then be asked to report, either individually or as part of a group, on a specific topic. This month's topic is Latin America.

Astral Theatre Collective Presents: “Tea Time with Jane Austen” Join us for a visit with one of literature's most cherished authors - Jane Austen. In this hour long presentation, Miss Austen will share tales of her storied life as well as read excerpts from her famous books. Miss Austen is lovingly portrayed by Rachel Sanford of Huntington. PALS Book Club This book club was formed especially for seniors by Highmark PALS (People Able to Lend Support) in order to bring older adults together for a literary challenge and social interaction. The groups meet once a month except in December. If you are eligible for Medicare, are interested in making new friends and enjoy discussing new books, contact your local library for more information. This month's title is "Carrying Albert Home" by Homer Hickam.

The Dark Visitor: Conversations about Death and Dying Martha Spalding Mozingo will facilitate this five-part series. Martha has an MA degree in Counseling and is a member of Mensa. Group discussions will follow each session. This week's topic is Funeral Traditions and focuses specifically on West Virginia laws concerning different funeral options. The guest speaker will be Linda Wilson from Barlow Bonsall Funeral Home. Participants are encouraged to attend all sessions for the most benefit. Booklists and other resources will be provided. Refreshments will be served. Please note: This series does not address issues with grief. If you have recently experienced a loss, please consider using local clergy, therapists, and Kanawha Hospice. We will not deal with grief counseling in this series.
