KCPL offers basic computer training classes to get you up to speed.

Computer Basics

If you're absolutely new to computers, this is the best place to begin. We will discuss the parts of a computer, how computers work, how to use a mouse, how to open and close programs, cutting and pasting, and how to type and change text.

Introduction to email

Learn how email works and which type would work best for you, then sign up for a free Gmail account. You'll learn how to send and receive mail, as well as how to spot and avoid scam emails.

Introduction to the internet

The Internet is central to so much of our lives. In this class, we'll explore the history of the Internet, discuss how to control websites, and practice using search engines to find websites that cover your favorite topics. Also, you'll learn how to use the Internet to get maps and driving directions.

Introduction to WVDeli

WVDeli is the library's newest offering-a collection of ebooks, audiobooks, music, and video that's available 24 hours a day! You'll explore WVDeli's resources and learn how to download files to your computer and transfer them to your portable device. You'll need a library card to attend this class and use WVDELI-if you don't already have one, please contact Craig at the number below.

Microsoft Excel is the program of choice for organizing data and numbers in a spreadsheet format. It can make your accounting and budgeting tasks much easier!

PowerPoint allows users to create slideshows which include text, pictures, color and design. Learn to add transitions, set timings, and customize the presentations which you create.

Microsoft Word is the most popular software for word processing today. It's a powerful program that allows you to create letters, reports, resumes, articles, garage sale flyers, and more! We'll also learn how to add tables and charts to our documents and utilize templates to easily create professional-looking certificates and awards.

Photo Editing with Gimp

Learn how to use free image-manipulation software to enhance, enlarge, and alter your photos. Techniques such as resizing, cropping, and color manipulation will be covered.

Skype

Skype is a simple program that allows people with webcams to communicate with one another. The library offers a basic introduction to Skype. You must bring your own laptop equipped with a webcam to complete the entire session.
