KCPL's Family Read Aloud Club is a program inviting parents to read aloud to their children during the school year. The aim of the program is two-fold: for families to spend quality time together and to promote lifelong literacy. Science Fun!

How do scientists find out how to make electricity, fuel efficient cars and an artificial heart? They test their ideas using the scientific method. Dr. Kimberlyn Gray and Dr. Stephen Goodman, science professors at West Virginia University Institute of Technology, will help us understand the scientific method with fun science experiments.

Read with the Dogs

Sit! Stay! Read with the Dogs!

We've gone to the dogs... but not just any dogs! These therapy dogs love to help young patrons improve their reading skills by listening as children read to them. All participating dogs are registered as members of a therapy dog team with their owner/trainer. Patrons are required to sign up for a four-week reservation to read to the dogs.

Ballet

River City Youth Ballet

The River City Youth Ballet, the Official Youth Ballet for the State of West Virginia, will present a short performance at area libraries featuring selections from their fall shows, The Snow Queen and The Nutcracker. Children of all ages are invited to attend and meet some of the cast members. Ballet stories and activities by library staff round out the program.
