KCPL needs the assistance of professionals in the community who are willing to solicit contributions toward our $47 million capital campaign to build a new main library, two new branches, and four branch expansions. Training is provided. This is a good networking option and a good way for us to identify future board leadership.
This event is held in April and is a great fundraiser for children's programming at KCPL. While you are not required to join the Friends of the Library to participate in the event, joining the Friends offers wonderful volunteer opportunities, including advocacy for the library, soliciting basket items for the basket auction, and helping with staff appreciation events.
The book festival is a two-day event in October. This is a great event for book lovers. There are a variety of volunteer opportunities, ranging from assisting with the used book sale to helping with the children’s activities such as crafts.
Book sales are a big part of both the Book Festival (October) and the Street Fair (June). Setting up for the book sales requires physical stamina. Volunteers are needed to organize books and assist customers.
Held in June, the Street Fair is a library sponsored event that is part of FestivAll. Volunteers are needed for the book sale and for children's activities held in front of the library.
KCPL's board of directors oversees the operation and long-range planning of the library system, including its nine branches. Board members come from all parts of Kanawha County.
These board members are the fundraising arm of the library and also participate in advocacy activities that support the mission of the library.
